At the heart of what this small business does is the belief that wellbeing starts with the self & ripples out into everything else. If we are well & more than ‘just ok’ then we can all do so much to support our communities & environment. Once you start with a few sustainable swaps, before you know it life looks a whole lot greener. Bohemia & Flower is about keeping the flame of hope & positive action alive in the everyday. We love to keep life simple & elevating our everyday self care is part of this ethos.
We do things differently
Bohemia & Flower are committed to- using fully recyclable / home compostable packaging
- offering packaging free soap, there’s an option on each handmade soap to choose to shop naked 👌🏻
- using zero plastic in our packaging
- & very minimal plastic packaging of ingredients from our suppliers (plastic only ever enters the business as wrap for some ingredients or as plastic bottles, all of which we then recycle /reuse /repurpose)
- we use wooden moulds not silicone (it’s actually the norm for soap makers to use silicone these days) we don’t compromise on this
- we use paper parchment to line our moulds, this means you may sometimes see fold or crease marks in our bars, we don’t see this as an imperfection, rather as an expression of our values & the unique nature of our sustainable soap. We compost this paper, it makes the worms & compost bin & eventually the plants on our allotment very happy
- we recycle plastic containers from our friends at Wasted Kitchen, instead of buying big bowls to make our vegan soaps we repurpose their catering sized food tubs & use these to blend & make the soap
- we repurpose plastic 'mushroom crates' the kind you see in a green grocers, we line these with paper parchment & cure the fresh soap bars stacked up in them
Our Footprint
Bohemia & Flower also
- are a low energy business, as a handmade soap company we use a traditional method known as the cold process, we use VERY little energy to make our vegan soap, a little heat to get the oils warm, a hand blender to emulsify the ingredients & the rest is a natural process, it literally ‘cooks’ itself. We sometimes use a electric dehumidifier in damp wintery weather to keep the storage area moisture free
- we are working towards being even more proactive with waste by utilising waste food products in our handmade soaps, we use used coffee grounds in one of our soap bars (get in touch if that's your vibe)
- we are also looking forward to growing the business organically & introducing more of the products we love to use
